LegalTerms of Service
The rules of the simulation. They are deliberately short, and deliberately in favour of the player: the game is free, nothing that matters is locked behind money, and you can walk away with your data at any time.
Section 1The agreement
By playing Aeonfold or using this website you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree with them, please do not use the Service — no part of it requires you to hand over anything first, so leaving costs you nothing.
The Service is provided by a single independent developer based in Vietnam (“we”, “us”). Our Privacy Policy explains what data is involved and forms part of these Terms.
Plain English: play the game, don't attack the servers, don't try to steal the one paid cosmetic, and understand that a free game made by one person comes with no uptime promise. Everything below is a longer version of that.
Section 2Who may play
You may play Aeonfold if you are at least 13 years old, or the minimum age of digital consent where you live if that is higher (up to 16 in parts of the EEA). If you are under 18, you may only sign in or make a purchase with the consent of a parent or guardian, who accepts these Terms with you.
You may not use the Service if applicable law prohibits it, or if we have previously terminated your access.
Section 3Your licence to the game
Aeonfold, its code, art, music, text, name and logo remain ours (or our licensors'). We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to play the game and use this website for your own non-commercial enjoyment.
Please don't
- Sell, sublicense, rent or redistribute the game or its assets, or ship them inside another product.
- Reverse engineer, decompile or modify the Service, except where that right cannot lawfully be restricted.
- Remove or obscure any credit or notice in the game.
- Use our name, logo or artwork in a way that suggests we endorse you.
Please do
- Stream it, record it, screenshot it, write about it, make videos about it — including monetised ones. You have our blessing and you do not need to ask.
- Write guides, wikis and tools for other players, as long as you don't pass the game off as your own.
Section 4Accounts and cloud save
The game does not need an account. Signing in with Google is optional and exists for one reason: to back your save up to the cloud and restore it elsewhere.
- You are responsible for the Google account you sign in with and for anything done through your session.
- Saving to the cloud overwrites whatever save that account holds; loading from the cloud overwrites the save in your browser or app. The game warns you before it does either — read the prompt.
- A cloud save is limited to 2 MB, which is far more than a real save needs. We may reject or remove data that is malformed, abusive, or clearly not an Aeonfold save.
- We do not expire saves. Your cloud save is never deleted for inactivity, however long you are away — it goes only when you overwrite it or ask us to remove it; see the Privacy Policy.
Section 5Purchases, virtual items and refunds
Everything purchasable in Aeonfold is cosmetic. No mechanic, currency, chapter or ending is ever locked behind payment, and paying never makes the game faster.
Buying
- On the web, purchases are processed by Stripe on Stripe's own checkout pages. In the mobile apps they are processed by Google Play or the Apple App Store. Their terms apply to the transaction itself.
- Prices are shown before you pay and include any tax we are required to add. Currency conversion and card fees are between you and your bank.
- An item unlocks once the payment provider confirms the payment — usually within seconds.
What you are buying
- A licence to use a cosmetic item inside Aeonfold. Virtual items have no monetary value, cannot be exchanged for money, and cannot be transferred or sold to another player.
- Unlocks are recorded on the device that bought them and travel with your cloud save — keep a cloud save if you want them on a second device. Store purchases can also be restored through the store.
- We may retune, restyle or retire cosmetic items as the game evolves. If an item you paid for is ever removed outright, contact us.
Refunds
- Web purchases — if you were charged twice, the unlock never arrived, or you simply changed your mind within 14 days, email aeonfold@gmail.com and we will refund it. We do not argue about small amounts.
- Mobile purchases — refunds are handled by Google Play or Apple under their published policies; we cannot process them ourselves, though we will help you chase one.
- Nothing here limits any statutory refund or cancellation right you have under the consumer law of your own country.
Section 6Donations
Donations are voluntary gifts that help pay for development time and server costs. A donation is not a purchase: it buys no item, no advantage and no promise of future work, and it is not refundable except where the law requires. Thank you, sincerely, if you make one.
Section 7Rewarded ads
Ads in Aeonfold are rewarded only: you start them deliberately, in exchange for a temporary boost. There are no banners, no interstitials, and nothing that interrupts play. Watching is always optional, the number you can watch per day is capped, and declining advertising consent does not restrict the game. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
Attempting to fake, replay or automate ad rewards is a breach of section 9.
Section 8Your progress
Your save lives on your device. Browsers clear storage, phones get wiped, apps get uninstalled, and disks fail. We take reasonable care of cloud saves but cannot guarantee that any save, local or cloud, will survive, and we are not liable for lost progress.
- If your progress matters to you, sign in and save to the cloud from time to time. It is free and takes one tap.
- Balance changes, bug fixes and new content can shift the value of what you have accumulated. That is a normal part of a live game, not a fault.
- The game is single-player, so what you do to your own save affects nobody else. Editing it is unsupported: it can corrupt your progress, and we cannot repair or recover a save that has been tampered with. Using it to grant yourself paid items is a breach of these Terms.
Section 9Acceptable use
The Service is one small server run by one person. These rules exist so it stays up for everyone.
- Do not attack, overload, flood or otherwise disrupt the Service, or attempt to bypass rate limits, authentication or any other protection.
- Do not probe or test the Service's security outside the rules on our security page — inside those rules, you are welcome, and we will thank you.
- Do not scrape, mirror or automate access at a scale that harms the Service.
- Do not obtain, or try to obtain, paid items without paying for them.
- Do not send unlawful, hateful, harassing, deceptive or infringing content through the feedback form, and do not impersonate anyone.
- Do not use the Service to break the law where you live.
Section 10Feedback and suggestions
If you send us a bug report, idea or review, you allow us to read it, act on it, and build what it suggests — with no obligation, payment or credit, though credit is often given anyway. You keep whatever rights you have in what you wrote; you simply confirm that it is yours to send and that we are free to use it. Please don't send anything confidential.
We may quote or publish feedback (for example in the changelog), and when we do we leave out any contact detail you gave us.
Section 11Availability, changes and ending access
- The Service is provided free and without any uptime guarantee. It may be unavailable for maintenance, faults, or reasons entirely outside our control.
- We may add, change, or remove features, content and balance at any time — that is what a game in active development does.
- If we ever have to discontinue the Service, we will give reasonable notice on this site where we can, so you can retrieve your save.
- We may suspend or terminate access for anyone who breaches these Terms, particularly section 9. Where it is proportionate to do so, we will warn first.
- You may stop at any time by closing the game and, if you wish, asking us to delete your data.
Section 12Warranties and liability
The Service is provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent permitted by law we disclaim all implied warranties, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Service will be uninterrupted, error-free, or that any save will be preserved.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, or for lost progress, lost data, lost profits or lost time. Our total liability arising out of or relating to the Service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or US$50.
Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions or limitations. Where that is the case, the exclusions above apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing in these Terms removes rights that mandatory consumer law gives you.
You agree to cover us against claims that arise from your misuse of the Service or your breach of these Terms.
Section 13Third-party services and links
Aeonfold relies on Google (sign-in and ads), Stripe (web payments), the app stores (mobile distribution and payments), and its hosting and network providers. Their terms govern their own services, and we are not responsible for them.
Links from this site or from inside the game — community, donation and store links — lead to sites we do not control. Follow them at your own discretion.
Section 14Governing law and disputes
These Terms are governed by the laws of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and the courts of Vietnam have jurisdiction over any dispute. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your own country, or of the right to bring proceedings there where that law allows it.
Before anything formal, please just talk to us. Nearly everything can be sorted out with one message.
If any provision of these Terms is held unenforceable, the rest stays in force. Our not enforcing a provision on one occasion is not a waiver of it.
Section 15Changes and contact
We may update these Terms as the game changes. The current version always lives at this address with its “last updated” date, and material changes are noted in the changelog. Continuing to play after a change means you accept the new version.
Questions about these Terms, refund requests and legal notices: aeonfold@gmail.com. Bugs, ideas and reviews are better sent through the feedback form.
